I don't believe in God #reallymeans "I need an excuse to keep living like a fool"
--@imINTOXICATED
Alright. I'm all for a nice, wise quote now and again. But I just don't quite agree with this one. I mean, I can see where dude is coming from. But here's my take on things.. And it would take me way more than 140 characters to explain myself...
I don't feel that believing in God has everything to do with not "living like a fool." However, if we get into the technicalities of it, the word "fool" was used in the bible to describe a person that does not believe in God. In which case, yes, this statement would be entirely true..lol. But, let's consider that this isn't the version of "fool" that's being used here. If the person saying "I need an excuse to keep living like a fool" in fact does not believe in God, it's safe to assume they don't follow the biblical version of the word "fool."
On one hand, I have to say, just because someone says they don't believe in God doesn't mean they're going to go out and act like a heathen. First of all, even devout Christians sin. Everybody does something wrong, believing in God has nothing to do with it. Speaking as a person who is currently between religions [>______>] I still live a fairly moral lifestyle. I don't live my life like a fool, so to speak. I'm educating myself, I think lying, cheating, and stealing is wrong, I value human life and believe murder is wrong. I curse, because I believe in freedom of speech, but I do believe in respect, for others and others' property. Hell, I'm not even a lesbian [nothing against them, I love the gay community ^_^ lol]. But I don't read the bible, and, honestly, no, I'm not a big follower of the big guns upstairs. And on the other side of the spectrum, you get priests molesting little boys, reverends cheating on their wives, the most holy of the holy acting a plum fool.
And then, when you think further into it, which I have a bad habit of doing...what if they believe in something else? Seriously, though. I don't think that's what my intoxicated friend is saying. [SN: he constantly states that his name has no reference to alcohol, so chill on the hypocrisy claims.] But are there still people out there that think that just because someone doesn't believe in the same thing they believe in, that someone is a bad person? That's another that gets me about religion; isn't judgement a sin or something you're not supposed to do? Christians are quick to do that, they have a tendency to tell others how to live their lives. Just because someone doesn't live the same way they do, they tell them that their way is the right way. [I hope I made sense right then, because it took a lot to make that sentence sound even close to right..lol].
Just something to think about.
Don't mind my boredom.
Small one, out. *flies away*
